Child Development Center Gets Bright New Makeover

The Salvation Army unveiled major upgrades to its Child Development Center with a grand re-opening on April 18. The renovations were completed from November to March, and children 6 weeks to 5 years old will now enjoy bright rooms with large windows and cheerful décor. Additionally, new carpet was installed and a brand new state-of-the-art playground will be constructed this summer. Shannon Chapman, director of the Child Development Center for over 4 years, also welcomed 5 new staff members.

Chapman said, “This is a dream come true, and we’re very proud of the positive changes that have taken place and all that we’ve accomplished.”

Children enrolled at the Child Development Center are cared for and nurtured as unique individuals and placed in rooms appropriate to their physical and social development. Children are kept in small groups with low teacher-to-child ratios in order to foster their social interaction and development. Cari Holsapple, the new Education Coordinator, leads children in daily developmental activities, which include free time, snack time, gym time and outside play time. Weekly fees are based on a sliding fee scale according to family size and income. CASY vouchers are also accepted.
