Free Legal Aid in a Safe, Confidential Space

Legal woes come in all shapes and sizes, and often households without the financial resources to hire a lawyer have few places to turn. Even if households do have the financial resources, walking into an unfamiliar, untrusted space can compound the emotional stress that can be associated with legal issues. That’s why Indiana Legal Services and The Salvation Army have teamed up to provide a safe, confidential space for legal consultation.

Indiana Legal Services provides free legal consultation on the 2nd Tuesday of every month during the mornings at The Salvation Army of Monroe County. Walk-ins are welcome, but if you have questions or want to ensure a spot, please call 812-336-4310. Appointments are in 30 minute blocks, and follow up consultations are based on need and income eligibility.

Indiana Legal Services helps clients who are faced with legal problems that harm their ability to have such basics as food, shelter, income, medical care or personal safety. Most of the cases ILS handles are cases such as family law where there is domestic violence, housing, consumer law, access to health care, and access to government benefits. Indiana Legal Services does not handle any criminal matters.

The Salvation Army of Monroe County works daily throughout the year to “meet human needs in Christ’s name without discrimination”. We do this through innovative partnerships like these, and through year round services such as our food pantry, emergency financial assistance, thrift store clothing vouchers, worship services, and character building programs for youth. To find out more please visit or call Lt. Tennyson at 812-336-4310.
