Divisional Commander, Major Richard Amick presents the award to Susie White and Scott Guffey of Wal-Mart
Bloomington’s Wal-Mart won The Salvation Army’s Divisional Corporation of the Year. Their exemplary efforts to combat local poverty won them this state-wide recognition. Among their accomplishments are providing staff incentives to support charity, donating food for the holidays and supplying hard-to-find materials for those in need.
Of equal importance, is the positive and forward-thinking attitude of Wal-Mart staff and leadership. They set a strong corporate example by taking the time and energy to create innovative programs and putting forth substantial personal efforts in their compassionate endeavors.
Congratulations Store #1991!
Nature’s Way Makes This Yard Beautiful
Nature’s Way has helped make The Salvation Army a much more attractive place to walk into and certainly to drive past.
The next time you and yours are at the corner of Rogers and Kirkwood in Bloomington, stop to notice the stonework and plantings above. Where there was once grass, there is now color, texture and beauty.
The Salvation Army’s Women’s Auxiliary helped to make this project happen, and their interest in the aesthetics of the buildings on the corner of Rogers and Kirkwood has made a significant difference!
It’s exciting to feel the energy of downtown Bloomington: the B-line trailhas opened, the Tuesday farmers market is in full swing, there are more and more people walking to their destinations and road crews are busy making the streets better places to drive. And now, The Salvation Army has but a small part to play in this buzzing activity. It’s corner on the outskirts of downtown is getting better too.
Community Coming Together

The congregation at Faith Lutheran Churchin Bloomington had a lot going for them last week. They began construction on a large addition to their church and they hosted their annual vacation Bible school called Spirit Camp.
Every year, Spirit Camp chooses an organization to donate items which the children bring with them as they walk into the church. This year The Salvation Army was approached and we gave a list of items that shocked the congregation.
Instead of asking for canned goods, The Salvation Army requested personal items such as soaps, shampoos, diapers, toilet paper and feminine products. The Hoosier Hills Food Bank does a great job of keeping our pantry stocked. but more and more clients have begun to ask for personal items.
The Faith Lutheran Youth (FLY) group was called up upon to help raise awareness and collect the items for The Salvation Army.
And did they ever succeed; Faith Lutheran Church donated close to 300 pounds!
