More Children Helped This Year

January 2, 2010 by cgrau · Leave a Comment

We’d like to share with you three things about our Christmas efforts.

First, quite a few folks came to The Salvation Army for assistance, about 720 families to be exact. We were the most excited though, because we helped more children this year, about 7% more than last year. The best thing is, each one of those children recieved about eight items; that’s a lot of donated toys! But we couldn’t have done it alone.

Secondly, we are indebted to the army of families, youth groups, church groups, women’s auxiliaries and individuals who came together to make this a successful endeavor. Of course, the ultimate praise goes to the Lord who is responsible for the success of our plans (Proverbs 16:3).

Lastly, for you who are jazzed about pics, want to relive the experience, or couldn’t be there to volunteer check out our Flickr page.

Keeping Busy for Great Causes

December 16, 2009 by cgrau · Leave a Comment

The Salvation Army is gearing up for Christmas, and the week before is hectic!

Toys for 700 households have been sorted and are being loaded into festive bags.

Food for hundreds of families has been packed into boxes, waiting for distribution!

Bellringers spread Christmas cheer at 20 locations in Monroe County.

Children in the Child Care are getting a special visit from Santa!

This all culminates in The Salvation Army’s Angel Tree Toy Distribution on Monday, December 21 & 22. But all these “geared up” acts of service only prepare us for the celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ on Friday.

$43,000 was the measure of generosity at this year’s Kettle Kickoff which not only raised money for the needy, but also launched the 2009 Red Kettle Campaign.

This years efforts were led by two of many teams that competed in the Dash for Cash. The team that brought in the most money during this time was the Ringing Retailers followed closely by the Healers.

Toy and Food Baskets Benefit Struggling Families

December 30, 2008 by cgrau · Leave a Comment

Over 750 local households received toys and food from The Salvation Army in Bloomington to help make the holidays brighter. But the need is much greater.

The current recession was a key reason many local families sought assistance at The Salvation Army. Sandra and her husband were indicative of the situation, raising three children here in town. This year Sandra looked to The Salvation Army for assistance because “there’s just more going out than there is coming in”.

The Salvation Army continues to provide assistance to households as they have need, to further its mission to meet human needs in His name without discrimination and is expanding its vision to work together with area agencies to ensure that we do not forget those who struggle with less during this time of economic need.
