Summer Wrap-Up

August 17, 2011 by · Leave a Comment

Wow – where has the summer gone. It has been a busy time at The Salvation Army in Columbus.

Kids gather in the belly of the giant fish in Bible class.

The Columbus Salvation Army held two Vacation Bible Schools this summer. Panda-Mania hit The Salvation Army in June for youth in grades K thru 6th and in August for Older Adults ages 55 and over.

Both young and old learned about how Wild God is about them through crafts, games, and Bible lessons. There was so much fun and excitement, not only with those who participated in the Panda-Mania VBS  but also by the volunteers who helped out.

Lt. Jodi Sladek said, “Vacation Bible Scool for youth is usually a normal activity that is offered in churches. Since we had some older adults who enjoyed helping us with our Vacation Bible School in June, my husband and I thought why not have an Older Adult VBS. We have never seen one offered before, and because of all the positive feed back we received from the seniors we will definitely be having an Older Adult VBS next year!”

Along with Vacation Bible School, The Salvation Army of Columbus, IN had the opportunity to send 10 youth to Hidden Falls Camp in Bedford, IN. Every year The Salvation Army offers youth the opportunity to go to camp during the summer. For many of the youth that were sent to camp this year from the Columbus Salvation Army this was a first for them to attend camp. All were so excited and cannot wait to go again next summer.
