Tools for School

The Salvation Army Tools for School program is designed to provide basic school supplies for children whose parents cannot afford the items necessary for their child(ren) to succeed in school.
According to the National Retail Foundation 2007 report, the average American family spends $563.00 per child on back to school expenses. The Salvation Army Tools for School program helps to compensate for some of these basic expenses by supplying children with bookbags, notebooks, pens and pencils, etc.
The Salvation Army provided 1,171 youth with new school supplies in 2007. Timothy Smith, Director of Social Services stated that this year we are anticipating an increase in demand in the number of families seeking assistance through this program.
The Tools for School program operates on the charity of the community who donate needed supplies during the summer months.
