NICU Assistance Program

Baby Charlotte in the NICU

Charlotte Ministries is a NICU Assistance program, inspired by a staff member’s struggle with having a baby in the neonatal intensive care unit.

Evaluated on a case-by-case basis, The Salvation Army provides care packages as well as financial assistance for families with a child currently in an Allen County NICU (and in special cases, children with cancer or other medical issues.) Assistance is provided upon demonstration of need and based upon donations received.

For more information, please contact Jama Smith at jama_smith@usc.salvationarmy.org or 260-744-2311.

CURRENT CASE: Baby Vila

Charlotte Ministries would like to introduce you to its newest case: Baby Vila

Baby Vila was transferred to Riley’s Children’s Hospital on April 9, 2015.

Vila is suffering from liver failure. She has undergone testing for Biliary Atresia, which is a life-threatening condition in infants in which the bile ducts inside or outside the liver do not have normal openings. The damage leads to scarring, loss of liver tissue, and cirrhosis. Without treatment, the liver eventually fails and the infant needs a transplant to survive. Vila will undergo surgery on Tuesday, April 14th 2015 to insure her liver does not further deteriorate.

The family is having difficulty, as the father had to leave his job to tend to his daughter and 2 year old son.
