NICU Assistance Program

Baby Charlotte in the NICU

Charlotte Ministries is a NICU Assistance program, inspired by a staff member’s struggle with having a baby in the neonatal intensive care unit.

Evaluated on a case-by-case basis, The Salvation Army provides care packages as well as financial assistance for families with a child currently in an Allen County NICU (and in special cases, children with cancer or other medical issues.) Assistance is provided upon demonstration of need and based upon donations received.

For more information, please contact Jama Smith at jama_smith@usc.salvationarmy.org or 260-744-2311.

CURRENT CASE #1: AVALYNN

Avalynn was born at 26 weeks gestation, and weighs only 1 pound and 15 oz. She has a hole in her heart that may never close; every day is a struggle for her to stay alive.

You can help Avalynn by donating the following:
Bottles
Preemie Clothes
Blankets/Bedding
Socks, Baby Mittens
Diapers and Wipes
Infant Car Seat
Gas Cards
Grocery Cards

Avalynn has a 21 month old sister named Brooklyn, a 5 year old brother named Brayden, and a 9 year old sister named Taralynn. Any items for them are appreciated as well.

.

The Allen County Salvation Army will be accepting donations for Avalynn until AUGUST 27, 2015.

CURRENT CASE #2: Abigail

abby

Abigail has been in the NICU for over a month. She just had surgery for an intestinal malrotation, and her appendix and other organs were misplaced. Abigail has micropthalmia (her eyes are 1/4 the size they should be), colobomas in both eyes (missing internal optical structures), Hypoplastic corpus collosum (the white nerve matter between the right and left hemispheres of her brain is small), and the intestinal malrotation (now corrected). She will have severe vision deficits (she has some sight now- but could deteriorate, will most likely be legally blind), and the brain issue has such a wide range of issues she could display ADHD/autism symptoms up to the potential of always needing care due to motor and developmental delays. She is most in need of :
size 1 diapers,
Sleepers, size 0-3 and 3-month sleepers with feet.
Musical/Light sound toys to help with development

The Allen County Salvation Army will be accepting donations for Abigail until AUGUST 27, 2015.
