Internships

The Salvation Army offers students the opportunity to build skills and impact the lives of people in our community through our internship program. Internships through The Salvation Army are on a voluntary basis. College credit may be available depending on the requirements of your professor and academic program.
We have internships in the following areas:
Business – Marketing – Fund-Raising Internship
Activities
- Meet and work with officer, PR consultant and other key staff to help develop a marketing plan/strategy
- Participate in meetings
- Choose one component/fund-raiser of the marketing plan and implemented with the assistance of The Salvation Army staff
Qualifications
- Must be at least a sophomore in college pursuing a degree in related field (with potential professor’s advisement and support)
- Must demonstrate experience and/or willingness to learn with a good track record
- Working knowledge of MS Office and database management
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
Human Services – Social Service Internship
Activities
- Shadow social worker during interviews
- Assist in social service activities such as the food pantry (stocking, ordering, distributing)
- Data entry of confidential information
Qualifications
- Sophomore standing or higher
- Working knowledge of MS Office
- Excellent interpersonal interaction or people skills
- Requires high level of confidentiality
- Works well alone with others
- Good communication and organizational skills
Community Youth Center Summer Intern
Description of Internship
- The Community Youth Center Intern will be responsible for assisting with Summer Day Camp held at The Salvation Army at 2901 North Clinton Street
Duties May Include
- Helping with lunch, snacks, daily devotions, two field trips per week, games, music, arts and crafts, sports, cooking classes, science experiments, access to computers/internet, video games, etc
Supervisor
- The Intern will be supervised by the Community Youth Center Director
Qualifications
- Must have experience working with children
- Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to multi-task
- Self-motivated individual
- Supportive of the programs and mission of The Salvation Army
Time Commitment
- Flexible hours.
