Volunteer Opportunities
Christmas:
- Assist with applications/intake for families seeking Christmas help.
- Assist with collection of materials through Adopt-a-Family, Angel Tree, and/or Stuff-a-Stocking. Donations/Collections can also be made for our partner Marine Corps Reserves Toys for Tots.
- Assist with pick-up of donations (times and hours vary)
- Assist with inventorying donated goods as they come in.
- Assist with set-up and sorting of supplies for distribution
- Assist with set-up and distribution of food at Community Harvest Food Bank
- Assist with distribution of gifts to families in December.
- Ring the bell for 2+ hours (great activity for groups)
- Help deliver gifts to area nursing homes, hospitals and shut-ins through our Caring Ministries program.
Tools For School:
- Prepare barrels for distribution to the community. This is a great opportunity for groups, civic clubs, organizations and youth groups.
- Help driver, delivering barrels to designated businesses throughout Allen County.
- Help pick up supplies from barrel/collection locations (hours and times flexible).
- Help inventory incoming supplies.
- Participate in the Volunteer Intake/Application Training.
- Assist with TFS intake/applications.
- Assist with the set-up of TFS supplies for distribution (great project for groups).
- Assist with TFS distribution of school supplies to their families.
Food Pantry:
- Help bag and hand out groceries twice a week (Tuesday and Thursday).
- Help stock and sort items.
- Help pick up donated supplies.
Youth Programs:
- Assist youth with their homework through our Community Youth Center after-school program.
- Provide specific instruction and training in special areas such as music, computers, arts and crafts, etc.
Office/Administrative:
- Data entry: Help enter data into database/spreadsheet for social service, development, or youth programs. Volunteer must be able to use a computer proficiently. Must be able to handle confidential information. Must be mature, professional, as well as able to communicate and follow instructions. Hours are flexible, but we are looking for individuals who can commit to at least one day a week.
- Newsletters: Help fold and label newsletters to be mailed. Volunteers are needed the last week of the month for a one day commitment.
- Administrative help, filing, creating files and folders, organizing file drawers, assist with proper preparation of ‘dead files’ etc. These responsibilities are entry level requiring only attention to detail and would be ideal for a volunteer looking to gain work experience or someone who is retired and just likes to work in an office atmosphere.
Building and Maintenance
- General Cleaning: Help with the daily upkeep of the facility by helping to vacuum, dust, etc.
- Yard Work: Help weed flower beds, cut down elephant grass and trim bushes.
Emergency Disaster Services:
- A list of volunteer opportunities are posted based on the need during disasters. Emergency Disaster Services volunteers must go through special training.
Other:
- Operation Cool Breeze
- Caring Ministries (Easter and Christmas delivery of gifts to area nursing homes, hospitals and shut-ins)
