Volunteer Program

Often referred to as ”the army behind The Army,” volunteers play a crucial role in changing lives in the greater Fort Wayne Community through Salvation Army programs.  The volunteers are the dedicated individuals who stand with staff each day ensuring that the hungry are fed, sandbags are filled, youth receive homework assistance, families have a place to sleep and so much more.

Did you know that a volunteer’s time is valued at $16.83 per hour, according to the Independent Sector 2006 value for Indiana?  Over 400 volunteers gave 10,414 hours of service, during The Salvation Army’s 2008 fiscal year.  Their service is valued at $175,267.62.

Volunteers enable The Salvation Army to do the most good with each contribution stretching our resources to have even greater impact in the lives of families in need.  Many volunteers are doing even more good through their employer’s volunteer incentive matching gift program.  Click here to learn more about Matching Gifts and Volunteer Incentive programs.
