The Salvation Army Food Pantry

April 27, 2009 by ndelavergne · Leave a Comment

Yes, there is a food pantry at the Salvation Army here in Lafayette. Located at 1110 Union st. the hours are 9 a.m. to 11a.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. We serve around 300 families a month. With these kind of numbers the need for food donation is greatly needed. The best time to make a donation is in the afternoons or on Tuesday or Thursday when the Pantry is closed to be re-stalked.

You may ask what kind of food items do we take. Here is a short list to start with:

Non-perishable food items: soups, canned fruits, vegetables of all kinds, cereals, canned pasta, meal in a box, dry pasta and we can also use bathroom items soaps, shampoo, toilet tissue and even toothpaste.

All of these things help to provide a family with healthy choices.

We thank you for all that you are willing to do to help other’s.

For more please contact Eloise Lewellen our volunteer coordinator at 765-742-0006 or eloise_lewellen@usc.salvationarmy.org

Thank you again.

The Family Shelter

The family shelter ran by the Salvation Army here in Lafayette wish to thank the many different groups who have assisted us with funding and work groups these past few months. We specially wish to thank the SIA Foundation for the grant to purchase new washers and dryers. There have been several others a well, we thank you.

This past weekend 4/26/09 to put a date on it, we had the Homeward Bound walk. We had several groups walk on our behalf. The Majors from The Salvation Army  (Nelson & Deborah De La Vergne) walked with several members of the Army staff. It was a great day. Lillie Carty the Director of the Family Shelter was there on hand to cheer the teams on. It was a great day to walk and raise dollars for a great cause.

We look forward to seeing you there next year for the walk.
