The “River Run Car Show XXII” and music fest, featuring The Monarchs, will be presented at Bicentennial Park on Labor Day, Saturday, September 1st, 2018. This year through a partnership with Thorntons Motorcycles, we are excited to announce an additional day to Rockin on The River! Join us Sunday, August 26th at a motorcycle rally on the riverfront!
The title sponsor for this day of exciting riverfront activities is German American Bank. The purpose of the full day event on the river is to thank the community for their year-round support of The Salvation Army and to promote our work in Jefferson County.
River Run Car Show XXII is a classic car show located on the banks of the beautiful Ohio River. Last year close to 200 classic cars were staged along our scenic riverfront. Awards are presented at the end of the show to the most outstanding entries judged by class.
New this year is live music all throughout the event. Join us at 10 am as Dead birds, and Kevin Schlereth open our event off. These two tour acts can be seen at our Rockin on The River pre-view series June 24th for Dead Birds and June 28th for Kevin Schlereth.
Back by popular demand from their 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, and 2016 performances, The Monarchs are a nationally renowned rock and roll era band. Last year’s event was a huge success and brought thrills and raves from a large cross-section of our community.
Spectators will be admitted free to River Run Car Show XXII and the evening music fest. Goodwill donations will be accepted at both events. All proceeds will go to The Salvation Army for programs and social services.
Some of the programs and services offered include financial assistance for rent and utilities, food pantry, clothing assistance, and seasonal assistance such as warm winter clothing, Christmas assistance, and school supplies for children. Basic budgeting and household management classes, along with other tools for financial success, are integrated as part of the financial assistance program. Monday thru Friday the local Salvation Army community center serves two meals a day for those in need. Last year (2016) approximately 30,000 meals were served from the meal site. Also located at the community center is the Helping Hands Dental Clinic, which provides low-cost, on-site dental services to those in need.
During the school year, The Salvation Army operates Club 316, a character-building program for kids and teens. Music and Dance lessons are given to children who otherwise would not have the opportunity to learn due to financial constraints. Disaster relief is provided to survivors of fires, floods, and tornados, thru The Salvation Army’s Emergency Disaster Services (EDS).
Thank you for your support of The Salvation Army and its service to our community.
