Christmas is a special time at The Salvation Army. Not only are we embarking on our biggest annual fundraising campaign, but we also have the greatest opportunity to serve families in Grant County by providing food, clothing, and toys to those in need.
The holiday season can be a trying time for many people in our communities who struggle to make ends meet, having to choose between putting food on the table or paying the electric bill. A time that is supposed to be joyful and full of cheer can easily become depressing and burdensome for struggling families. It’s our sincere desire, at The Salvation Army, to bring hope to those feeling hopeless, and to ease even a part of the burden many of the families in our community face at Christmas.
With that goal in mind, we have already accepted many applications for Christmas assistance, and are now seeking the support of those in the community who are able to give. Unfortunately, we have already reached the maximum number of families that we will be able to serve this year. The reality of ever increasing need in Marion and the surrounding communities throughout Grant county is felt as we are unable to accept any more applications this year for assistance, despite the continuing requests. It’s our desire that as more resources become available in the future, the ministry of service provided through The Salvation Army will continue to grow, and even more families can be helped.
Of course, the other areas of service, which we provide all year long, are still available. Our food pantry is open on Monday through Thursday, from 10am to 2pm, and is available to individuals and families every 60 days. Rent and utility assistance is provided through the Social Service office, but is limited to the funding sources currently available.
If you have any questions, whether you’re in need or wanting to help those who are, please give our office a call at (765) 664-6536.
