Now that we’re finally past a brutal winter season, it’s time to prepare for a spectacular summer!
Each summer, The Salvation Army of Indiana’s Hidden Falls Camp hosts hundreds of children from around Indiana for a week long Christian-based camping experience. Located in Bedford, Indiana, Hidden Falls Camp is a 706 acre facility which offers lodging, dining, miles of nature trails, an indoor swimming pool, fishing, a challenge course, and other amenities. With lots of activities to keep campers busy – things like arts and crafts, high ropes course, daily devotions, paintball, riflery, hiking, swings, archery, fun evening programs, cabin activities and of course, swimming! – Campers are busy from sunrise to sunset at camp.
The purpose of Salvation Army camping is to serve the needs of campers : physical, social and spiritual. For physical needs, our aim is to help campers develop good healthy habits in cleanliness, proper rest, balanced diet, exercise and care of the body. To meet social needs, the camp provides an opportunity for each camper to contribute to and receive from a group living experience .The aim is to help campers make their own right decisions, stimulate creativity and foster independence.
The fact that The Salvation Army is a Christian organization makes it possible for its camping program to integrate concern for the spiritual dimensions of life. We believe in God,His Word, and what it teaches, and a pattern of living exemplified by Jesus Christ.
These purposes are achieved through carefully selected staff, well-planned programs and the highest standards of health and safety.
The Summer 2014 Camp theme is “GOD’S CRAFT”!
Psalm 24:1 (NLT) - The earth is the LORD’s, and everything in it, the world, and the people who live in it belong to Him.
The summer season will be loosely based on a video game/app called MINECRAFT. The game is extremely popular with both youth and adults. In this game players create and break apart various kinds of blocks in three-dimensional worlds. The game’s two main modes are Survival and Creative. In Survival, players must find their own building supplies and food. They also interact with block-like mobs, or moving creatures. In Creative, players are given supplies and do not have to eat to survive. They also can break all kinds of blocks immediately. Here is a video that can further explain: http://youtu.be/MmB9b5njVbA
Our focus will be not on how man can make amazing worlds, but how God already has and how He has a place for us in His world. Kids are settling for a digitized version of creation when God’s creation is right in front of them. We want to use the concept of MINECRAFT as a comparison to how much more amazing the real world is. Also, for the older kids and staff, we want to challenge them not to accept a blurry, pixelated version of faith but to embrace a real and clear faith, wholeheartedly.
This year’s camp schedule is posted below. The only cost for families/children to attend camp, from The Salvation Army of Marion, is a $25 registration fee per child/person. However, we want to send as many children/families to Hidden Falls Camp as possible, so scholarships are available to cover the registration fee, if needed. Transportation to and from camp is typically provided by The Salvation Army of Marion. For more information, or to apply for camp, please call the office at (765) 664-6536.
