The Salvation Army, which is conducting mass feeding efforts in tornado-stricken Joplin, Missouri, has established a text-to-donate number specifically to support the organization’s relief efforts in that community.

Cell phone users may test the word JOPLIN to 80888 to make a $10 donation.  You may also make credit card donations by calling 1-800-Sal-Army or by going to www.salvationarmyusa.org.  Checks mya be made out to The Salvation Army.  Please designate the gift to “Joplin Torndado”.  At this time, in-kind donations are not being accepted as financial donations allow disaster responders to immediately meet the specific needs of survivors.

NBC  Action News in Kansas City is sponsoring a telethon tonight frm 5 – 7 pm to raise money for The Salvation Army tornado relief efforts in Joplin, MO and Reading, KS.  The phone number to donate 816-932-HELP.  The lines will be live from 5 – 7 PM Central time tonight only.

The Salvation Army currently has four mobile feeding kitchens stationed in Joplin, each capable of serving serval thousand meals.  The Salvation Army Team Emergency Radio Network also arrived today in Joplin to assist survivors in locating loved ones through a ham radio network.
