Tools for School 2013 Distribution is August 6th, from 9:00am-11:30am & 1:00am-3:00pm
Background – In 1996, The Salvation Army of Gibson County launched “Tools for School”. The program was designed to help families in need with school supplies for their children. Often the poorest children arrive the first day of school ill-prepared. Without pencil in hand, or notebook for assignments, that crucial first day is spent begging teachers for supplies. These same children then must create an explanation for not having the necessary equipment. Each year, community awareness has grown, and the number of children assisted has continued to increase. In 2010, over 590 children received backpacks that contained the basic needs for grades K – 12. The goal of The Salvation Army is to be able to provide supplies for every child in need so they can have an equal start and a successful school year.
